Restrained Existence deals with the promotion and presentation of artistic practice in Serbia in the context of international cultural space. Exhibition focuses on works which, through the utilization of contemporary art practice and expanded media, research aspects of their social environment as well as possible relation of art and place of this regional scene in the international context.
Artists from Serbia will be represented at this exhibition by art installations, objects, photographs, drawings, videos, digital animations, and performances. Even though all selected artists communicate via recognized international language, and use all available technological and scientific achievements, their work nevertheless reveals their native environment through subtle signs appearing in the selection of subjects, execution, and the atmsophere surrounding it.
Awareness of the importance of positioning one's own artistic potential within a global cultural space and its current artistic production is increasingly present, not only among artists, but also curators and museums. They should all maintain an active role in making the cultural potential of Serbia recognizable and unavoidable on a global map of the current global art scene.
Support: Provincial Secretariat for Culture and Public Information, Ministry of Culture and Information of the Republic of Serbia, and Ministry of Culture of the Republic of Slovakia.
